My Story

Chats with Michael

Hi, I’m Michael, an American born teacher, traveler and writer. Though I write across many genres (screenplays, short stories, poems and memoirs), my first love is the theater. Over the years, 20 of my plays have been produced (10-minute, one-act and full-length), including five in New York City. Most recently, my original full-length play Zapatos was translated into Spanish and produced in Oaxaca, Mexico in 2023.

In 2019, I turned one of my short plays into a short film called ¿Importa?. Since then, I’ve made a total of six short films. I also direct and occasionally step onstage or in front of the camera as an actor.

I’ve lived in five countries and fourteen cities so far, and traveled to more than twenty-five. For the past ten years, I’ve called Mexico home.

When I’m not teaching I’m usually reading, cooking or writing something new.

I’ve been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) for 17 years, with in-person experience in Kyrgyzstan, China and Mexico. Since 2020, I’ve taught online, working with over 320 students from more than 30 countries. One of my favorite things is getting to meet students in person during my travels.
